Call for Papers: Special Issue on Self-employed Work in Soziale Welt; DL: 6th Dec, 2023.

The upcoming special issue aims to reflect upon the status of self-employed work in contemporary societies – both as form of work and as cultural ideal. It brings together theoretical and empirical contributions that critically reflect on the dissemination of self-employed work, on the dissonances self-employed work creates with regard to working conditions, wealth, or provision for life course risks, and on the depictions of self-employed work. The special issue, edited by Alexandra Manske, Katharina Mojescik, Isabell Stamm, will be published in the journal "Soziale Welt", one of the leading sociological journals in the Germany. Contributions in German and Englisch are welcome.

Submission will follow a two-step procedure. Interested authors are asked to submit a one- to two-page abstract by December 06, 2023, by mail to the editors (ist@mpifg.de; dr.a.manske@gmail.com and katharina.mojescik@uibk.ac.at). All accepted contributors will be invited to a digital conference in February. This will serve as a discussion forum for the authors of the volume to present and further develop their concepts and ideas. Participation in the conference does not imply definitive acceptance of the contribution in the special volume. Complete manuscripts must be submitted by May 15, 2024 (full paper submission is also possible without participation the digital conference). All manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review process. The special volume is scheduled for publication in spring 2025.
