Update on ISA World Congress of Sociology

Dear RC02 Newsletter subscribers,

As you may know, the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology was scheduled to take place in July 2022, however the Local Organizing Committee no longer believes that this is a viable. After two months of consultation, on Saturday, May 1st, the ISA Assembly of Councils met and decided to postpone the World Congress to 2023. The principle motivation for postponing the Congress is to plan to have the event be face-to-face in Melbourne, Australia but with hybrid components so as to promote environmental sustainability and global inclusion. This means that all deadlines for the World Congress are suspended.

I anticipate that this decision will be broadly popular. In surveys of ISA members, 72% were in favor of postponing the Congress.

As soon as the final date for the conference is established, I will let you know. Once the deadlines are established, I will alert you with opportunities to organize sessions and other events, as well as how to respond to calls for abstracts. I hope you will be able to join us in Melbourne in 2023!
