UNRISD request for consultations - Paving the Road to the Second World Summit for Social Development; DL: 15 Oct, 2024

In 2025, the General Assembly will convene the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD) to address ongoing social challenges and renew commitments made in the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and Programme of Action. This summit, held 30 years after the first, aims to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by focusing on social justice, equality and inclusion.

For the 2025 WSSD, UNRISD is launching a series of activities to engage our global, multi-sector network to understand public concerns and collect effective solutions and policies to the biggest social development challenges of our time. These questions aim to gather comprehensive and actionable insights from participants, helping leaders understand public concerns and aspirations more deeply.

To help find the best solutions, UNRISD is launching a global consultation to gather evidence on what different networks perceive as the key social development challenges and what changes they want to see. Specifically, it seeks opinions and reflections on the top three contemporary social development challenges and key demands for policymakers to fix them. You can underpin your choice by submitting references to publications and data. The deadline for submission is 15 October 2024 and UNRISD encourages you to submit your responses as soon as possible.

Based on the survey and further consultations to be held in the fall, UNRISD will publish a paper that compiles the evidence gathered to inform the drafting process of the political declaration of the WSSD. In addition, we will convene a call for papers conference in March/April 2025 that will constitute the basis for a research-based policy report that will be launched at the Summit in November 2025.
