CfA: Editor/s - Current Sociology; DL: 15 Feb, 2024
The current Editors of Current Sociology, Karim Murji and Sarah Neal, will complete their term of service at the end of June 2024. The ISA is now seeking expressions of interest for this position. The new editor (or editors) will take on responsibilities from July 2024. The term of office is three years, with the possibility of renewal (for two years, plus a further two years).
The Editor's Role
The editor(s) should have a vision of the kinds of themes and debates that reflect the dynamic developments of the ISA and contribute to the advancement of sociology. The main responsibility is managing the receipt and review process, with the help of an Editorial Board made up of well-known sociologists from different continents, and compiling the issues of Current Sociology.
There are a number of specific tasks related to this responsibility:
• Reading submissions to check that they are worthy of being considered for refereeing*;
• Sending articles to referees and tracking their reviews;
• Communicating with authors about revisions / rejection / acceptance;
• Ensuring that authors keep to agreed timetables of work;
• Checking manuscript submissions when final copy is received;
• Compiling each issue of the journal in accordance with editor(s) best judgment;
• Dealing with the publisher's deadlines for receipt of copy;
• Renewing the Editorial Board every three years;
• Organizing the Annual Sage Current Sociology Best Paper Prize
For the annual meetings of the Publications Committee and the Executive Committee, the editor(s) will be responsible for:
• preparing an annual report on the journal's activities;
• presenting an annual budget based on financial records of income from the ISA and expenditures on secretarial assistance, office expenses, etc.

• an updated CV;
• a summary of your experience relevant to the editorship;
• ideas for further developing Current Sociology;
• information on the kind/level of support your institution will give you to carry out your role as Editor;
• a letter of confirmation from your chair or other appropriate university authority.
