The Institute of Sociology of the University of Bern is looking to hire an Assistant Professor of Sociology (with tenure track) with a focus on Social Change The target start date of employment is February 1, 2025.

Tasks

The focus of the professorship is on social change and dynamics in contemporary societies. It can have one orseveral areas of specialization such as digital transformation, gender and diversity, inequality and conflict, ordemographic change and migration, to name but a few, but the professorship is also expected to addressdynamically new social developments as they unfold. The professorship conducts empirical research using state-of-the-art methods with the goal of informing on and possibly help solving current-date societal problems. Inteaching, the professorship offers courses in its areas of expertise as part of the Bachelor's and Master's programsof the Department of Social Sciences.

Requirements

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in sociology (or a closely related field). Internationally recognizedachievements in research, a promising teaching record, and sufficient experience with third-party funding, teamleadership and science communication are expected. As most administrative work and teaching at Bachelor level is in German, non-German speaking applicants are expected to acquire a basic knowledge of German within the first two years their appointment.
