The Institute of Sociology and the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen is recruiting a full-time post-doctoral researcher for two years, commencing on October 1, 2023.
The position is part of the research group of Prof. Karen Shire. Duties include teaching two courses each semester, primarily in the English language MA programs in Modern and Contemporary East Asian Studies on Japan, advising BA and MA students, participating in the mentoring of PhD candidates including in the DFG Research Training Group East Asian Futures, and contributing to the research profile of the institutes through independent and collaborative research and publications on transnational labor and migration, gender regime change and intersectional inequalities, with a focus on East Asia and Japan in comparative perspectives.
Applicants are expected to have completed a very good doctoral degree and to be fluent in English and Japanese. Applicants are asked to submit a CV, which includes a list of courses taught and publications, as well as copies of all degrees received before the deadline. A writing sample may also be submitted. While references may be named, it is not required to send references at the application stage. Certificates of completed employment or further training, if available, may also be submitted.
