ISA Registration Grants for the XX World Congress, DL 31 January 2023
Are you presenting a paper or organizing a session with RC02 (either orally or as a distributed paper) at the forthcoming ISA World Congress in Melbourne? Additionally, are you a member of the International Sociological Association and Economy and Society Research Committee (RC02)? To promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within RC02, we will award as many registration waiver grants as possible within our allocated budget. Registration grants are not paid in cash but a special code will be given to each participant so that their conference registration is waived. The deadline for application is 31 January 2023.
Eligibility Requirements:
At the time of application for the grant, you must have active memberships in the International Sociological Association and the Economy and Society Research Committee (RC02). Non-members are ineligible to apply. To check your status (or renew your membership) look here: https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/login
You must be an active participant with RC02 in the forthcoming ISA World Congress in Melbourne, June 25 – July 1, 2023. This can be demonstrated by having a paper accepted in an RC02 session (oral distribution or distributed paper) and/or by organizing a session.
Each ISA Research Committee, Working Group and Thematic Group will hold their own competitions. However, by ISA rules, you can only apply for a registration grant from one RC/WG/TG.
Selection Criteria and Process:
To maximize the impact of the grants, we will prioritize providing grants to eligible applicants based on the following criteria:
Applications from RC02 colleagues throughout the world are welcome. However, we will be prioritizing grants for colleagues residing the global South. Country of residence will be ranked as follows: Category C countries, Category B countries, Category A countries (see details below).
Nature of participation with RC02 at the World Congress, ranked as follows: session organizer, oral presentation, or distributed paper.
Taking into consideration the applicant’s statement. If an applicant has durable ties to the Global South but resides in the Global North, they may wish to mention this in their statement. Similarly, applicants can expand on their ties to RC02, their motivations for attending the World Congress, or describe financial constraints.
These country income categories do not reflect development status and are used for operational purposes by the International Sociological Association. Brazil, for example, is a Category B country. To determine the category of your country, you may consult: https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/membership/table-of-economies-by-category
The grant selection committee will consist of Karen Shire (RC02 Vice President), Heidi Gottfried (RC02 Board member), Dustin Stoltz (RC02 Executive Secretary) and chaired by Aaron Pitluck (RC02 President).
