New research on contested development planning in Brazil & Latin America
RC02 is pleased to announce the open access publication of Elisa Klüger’s research on "The ECLA-BNDE Economic Development Centre and the training of a generation of development planners in Brazil” in the latest issue of the CEPAL Review (Revista CEPAL). This research was based on her RC02 presentation last February in the IV ISA Forum of Sociology Session online in Porto Alegre, “Latin American Structuralism, CEPAL, and Economic Sociology in Historical and Contemporary Perspective.”
Klüger, Wanderley, and Barbosa´s article recovers the hitherto untold story of the CEPAL-BNDE center that operated in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s and 1960s and decisively influenced the training of development technicians and the directions of the economic thought in Brazil and Latin America. Based on documents, newspapers, and original interviews, this article explores the circuits of peripheral circulation of economic knowledge and expertise, offering a historical perspective on the process of construction and diffusion of CEPAL’s structuralism. The article is currently available in Spanish and is forthcoming available in an English translation.
